Belong: Resurrection
Next week shops, offices, and schools across Germany will be closed for Osterferien (Easter holiday). Some people must continue to work, but many will take advantage of the holiday to travel, spend time with family and friends, or just rest. What are your plans for Osterferien?
It is good news when we know that we have a holiday in sight. But while enjoying a much deserved break from work or school is refreshing, will Easter break change your life?

Belong: Grace
I remember lying in my bed trying to sleep, but I couldn’t. Despite my childlike understanding of God and the Bible, I sensed an urge to ask Jesus to come into my heart. I knew I needed to give my life to him. After saying a short prayer, I ran excitedly to tell my parents about my important decision. Since it was past my bedtime, they encouraged me to go back to sleep and promised we would talk more in the morning.
In the following days and weeks, my parents along with other trusted people counseled me in my decision to walk with Jesus. On Easter Sunday, a year after praying to receive Jesus, my father baptized me. In front of a crowd of people I was symbolically “buried to my sin in death” in the water and “raised to walk in the newness of life” with Jesus.

Belong: Prayer
“I want you to know how proud I am of you - know that you are daily in my prayers. Love, Memaw”
This is how my grandmother concluded the last letter she wrote to me before she died.

Belong: INheritance
Receiving an inheritance means receiving fortune and wealth that you did nothing to earn. Someone else put in the work, made the investments, managed the funds, and then died, so that heirs could receive the fruits of their labor.

Belong: Adoption
Not long after marrying Taylor, I began the legal process to change my name. Married couples sometimes choose to change (or not change) their names depending on their culture or personal preferences. We decided that I would give up my last name and take his family name. In a small way this reflected our new relationship as we became the “Whitley Family” together.

Belong: Introduction
Last year was a big year for Community Church. During 2023, we finalized our start-up team, landed on our name, started public outreach events, celebrated our first baptism, experienced a friend walking with Jesus, and launched public worship gatherings. God did a lot in our community last year, and we are so excited to see his plans unfold in 2024.
That’s why today we’re announcing our new theme for this year, “Belong.”

Rest For Your Souls: Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
Christmas Markets, Glühwein, Christmas Trees, candle light, gifts; isn’t Christmas a lovely season? Sometimes, Christmas is great! But there are some years where Christmas is more of a challenge than a joy.

Rest For Your Souls: God With Us
After our sons were born my husband and I mailed out little birth announcements to share the news and celebrate with our family and friends. The cards featured an adorable baby picture (of course!) and other information like the baby’s weight and date of birth. We also chose to explain briefly the meaning of the names we chose for our children.
The Bible also contains a birth announcement. Except this one seems highly unusual. This announcement came before the baby’s birth. Even more unusual, the message came from a heavenly being in order to inform the parents exactly what they should name their future child.

Rest For Your Souls: Jesus CAlls the Children
Children have a natural tendency to trust those who love and care for them. Children in loving homes don’t worry about who’s cooking dinner, whose scheduling their appointments, or who will tuck them into bed at night. They are free to simply enjoy the love of their family, and rest in provision and love.

Rest For Your Souls: Jesus Calls Matthew
Can you think of someone really unpopular, a person that makes immoral choices, someone who does not care about family or friends and just does things for his own good? Now imagine someone brought this person along to dinner with friends. That could be quite awkward or maybe even make you angrily think “Why is this person here?”

Rest For Your Souls: A firm Foundation
Because I have kids, I really like the playgrounds in Berlin. It seems like at every corner a tiny Spielplatz paradise awaits excited kids and tired parents alike.
One unique feature about Berlin playgrounds is that they almost always have sand. The sand provides not only a soft surface to run, play or fall on, but is in itself a toy for the kids to dig in and build with.

Rest For Your Souls: The Lost Sheep
I remember getting lost at the grocery store as a little girl.
As my mother shopped, I became distracted by something on the shelves (probably candy!). When my mother moved on to look at more items, I kept examining the sweets and walked in the opposite direction. Suddenly, I realized we were no longer together. I panicked and ran between the aisles searching for her.

Rest for your souls: Jesus cares for us
In the midst of the chaos, Jesus promises that he sees you and that he cares for you. He sees the situation we are in and even knows how we feel. Jesus knows what we need in the daily things and in the long run. Not only that, but he also wants to fulfill our needs.

Rest For Your Souls: Jesus walks on Water
Have you ever participated in a trust fall? You know the team building exercise where you must fall backwards, trusting the person behind you will catch you before you hit the ground? This simple exercise develops trust and camaraderie, but only when it works!

Rest For Your Souls: Come to Me
As we rushed to leave the house, only two tasks stood in our way. Putting clothes on the baby and packing the diaper bag. I took the baby and my husband took the diaper bag. As he gathered extra diapers and wipes, he hesitated when he found two small yellow tubes in the drawer. One contained baby lotion and the other diaper cream. “Which one is the diaper cream?” he asked. “The yellow tube!” I responded without looking up.
